She Sang as She Burned

Pretty perfect curls igniting as I spin

The granddaughter of the witches you forgot to burn

All those years ago

I slipped underneath your radar

Waited quietly, patiently

Waited for lucidity, rage, lust, sorrow, hysteria, hunger

To set me ablaze

Waited for the flickering spark

Light another match

I don’t give a fuck

I smile while the flames envelop me

Singing while burning

It’s not false decorum

Although I do grow tired of the small talk

It isn’t hiding beneath a grinning mask

For the sake of your own peace of mind

It’s embracing my darkness

I am no Phoenix

I bathe in my own ashes

There is no rising

There is just me and the burning embers

Light another match

As I croon my fiery melody
